Great class! Have to put some time in to get a good grade (as you would expect for any fourth year course) but if you keep on top of the material 90+ is very much possible. Very interesting material, pretty much style as 3090, so if you liked that course you will for sure like this one. There is a bit more material and they often go into a bit more depth then 3090, but it had much of the same feel.

Comment :
Midterm is harder then the 60% final. Partially due to the fact it isn't actually cumulative as indicated in the course outline, and therefore it doesn't contain Dr. Maclusky's part. Make sure you know the billion drugs for his section even though he says to not focus on drug names... All the other profs are great! Easy questions, well taught sections. Very interesting course and I loved it!

This is one of the best courses I ever took at Guelph. I took it in the Fall of 2013. The lectures are not necessary to go to because all the exam questions are taken directly from the lecture notes, not the extra material they say out loud. The exams (40% midterm, 60% final with the option of a comprehensive final worth the entire course grade) were purely multiple choice and no tricks. Maclusky was the first prof. He lectured way too fast and covered so much material. That is the only downside to the course. The other instructors were more organized and although there is a lot of memorizing of drug names/classes/adverse effects, it isn't too difficult to do if you start studying early. The most difficult questions came from Maclusky, but since the final wasn't cumulative, it was a breeze. The course is different from BIOM 3090 because the focus is purely on the drug classes and the associated physiology, not on pharmacokinetics.

Loved this class. Definitely take it if you enjoyed 3090. There is a LOT of memorization but it's interesting stuff so it sticks easily. 90+ is definitely a possibility if you like the subject and put in the effort. All M/C for the midterm and non-cumulative final with M/C and matching + short answer (straightfoward though). Go for it :)

Professor : Valli, MacLusky, Folkl etc etc

Comment :
Class isnt easy by any means, you will enjoy it if you liked the first one. More integrated than the first one though so I liked it a lot better. Goes through endocrine w/ maclusky was probably the hardest section on the midterm, some herbals, ani-inflammatory, blood disorders on the midter, anti-bacterials, anti-virals, anti-cancer and anti-parasitic on the final. Midterm was tough, all MC, Valli is a very nice prof and curved the midterm up when a few questions had a terrible response rate and curved it up so it was like a 75% average, pretty fair otherwise. Final exam was hard, so many drugs and very confusing names, had to know what they are used for, how they function (what enzymes they target etc), side effects etc but was also very fair. If you slack off you wont get a good mark, can't easily cram for this. Final mark was in 90s so its not impossible to do well but I had to put a ton of work into it. If you found the 1st one tedious or uninteresting dont take this, its more of the same but now on a 4th year level.

This course is far from easy. If you stay on top of the lectures and review regularly this course might go a little better for you. I suggest not taking the 90% unless you are the type of person that can work well under pressure. This course involves a lot of memorizing of drugs, receptors and what happens in the body.

Comment :
Don't take this class if Hanna isn't teaching it. The sessionals made our lives a living hell -- different focus in lecture, different testing, basically made us guess through the entire course. Then they decided to make the final cumulative, and told us that a week before the final. Helpful.

Great course but a lot to know... over 100+ drugs for the final exam. HOWEVER, it really enforces your understanding of physiology and learning about all the different drugs used to treat different problems is really interesting. This course is also more interesting than part I - BIOM*3090 Principles of Pharmacology

Lot of memorizing, but exams are fair if you are on top of the material.
