Aight listen this course was my worst course this sem-not cause it was hard it was actually one of my easiest in terms of grades but it was BORING AS HELL. the prof killed it for me. besides his occasional good jokes his teaching felt all over the place and unclear. I had to resort to reading the textbook to actual feel like i was learning anything. You need to go to lectures tho bc he tells you what terms are and arent important and what pieces youre covering/are more important. From there i just read the parts of the textbook related to those terms or pieces and took my notes. In terms of difficulty, its 3 midterms- last one might as well count as an exam (worth 40%) except its not cumulative. you have an essay question on one piece of art (you get 3 beforehand but he randomly picks one on the midterm) then 30 mc questions. Super easy as long as you know your stuff. 1st midterms is stupid easy, second is harder, and last is hardest- u gotta memorize more terms each midterm.

This class starts with prehistoric art and moves through to the early renaissance. I would recommend taking it before 1520 because it gives you a really good background on art history in general, but it's not required. Prof. Meyer was great. She clearly enjoys teaching this class and I enjoyed listening to her. The 2 midterms are mostly multiple choice and the written parts are easy as long as you are familiar with the material. She doesn't really care about specific dates for pieces, just know the general period they are from. The final exam is multiple choice with an essay (where you already know the possible questions). She really prepares you for the questions by talking about those topics throughout the semester.Tutorials are super easy marks - all you have to do is attend- and its really good review for tests. You don't need the online extra stuff from the publisher at all (it costs a crap load too) so just find a used textbook. Take good lecture notes and definitely read the textbook so you are prepared for the tests and final exam. This was one of my favourite classes this semester -really enjoyed it.

I had Professor Meyer for this class and she was a good teacher, but I found the content a little more on the dry side. There wasn't a lot of 'history' being incorporated into the class as the 'art' part. Some of the pieces were pretty cool, but the textbook goes a lot more in depth! If you are thinking of taking ARTH 1520, take it! This class is a solid intro to the next part.

Very simple class. Quite a bit of memorizing, there was no essays, just 2 midterms, essay, and tutorial attendance marks. Good introduction to art history, not as interesting as Historical arts 2.
