ZOO * 2700 – Invertebrate Morphology & Evolution W (3-3) [0.50]

This course examines the vast diversity of invertebrate taxa and the tools and concepts used to classify them and understand their origins. Principles of zoogeography, phylogeny, natural selection and comparative analyses will form the conceptual backbone of the course. In lectures and labs, students will ‘climb’ the tree of life, from the most ancient pre-invertebrates to more derived forms, and explore their anatomical and morphological diversity.

One of the best profs I have ever had, he shows videos at the beginning of every class and talks about David Attenborough. This class is pretty hard to get amazing marks in but it is easy to pass because you get marked on a lot of things. Chances for bonus marks in the labs. Would recommend to anyone that is interested in learning but not as a mark booster.

The course material was interesting, but the way lectures were laid out were kind of tedious. I felt like it was just a bunch of listed stringed together, but the prof was still funny. Lab were SUPER involved and I loved them. A few of the dissections were super cool. One of my biggest issues was with the lab report and how unhelpful some of the grading was. Other than that it was a good course, difficult and you HAVE to stay on top of it or else you will not do well.

Not a bad class... a lot of factual memorizing. Midterms were pretty easy as long as you study lots. Fudge doesn't have the most dynamic lecture style but he's pretty easy to listen to and a really nice guy. Him and Sheri will convert you to an invertebrate fan if its the last thing they do!

This course is very tough for a 0.50 credit course. A lot of content, and the tests are HARD. Fairly interesting content though, if you're interested in inverts, and prof tries to make it fun. The class research project was a bit of a mess unfortunately, but gives a good idea of what science is all about.

Tons of content, be prepared dedicate time to reading labs over and over again. Also, don't miss lecture the notes are important for exams and its way easier to learn the material by listening to Dr. Fudge than reading it yourself. Overall, I really enjoyed the course the material is interesting and the structure of the course is great. Very interactive and fun labs.

Had a huge crush on the prof. Overall, I enjoyed and learned a lot from this course. A LOT of species to cover, so it does require lots of work on your part. But it was interesting indeed! Labs were fun.

LOVED this class. Workload felt more than the 0.50 credit, but overall, I enjoyed it. Try not to miss class because Dr. Fudge does not post his notes online, and like someone said, it is easier to understand the content by listening to him than reading the textbook on your own. He does not breeze through his notes, and he is an amazing professor. The textbook was not necessary. Testing material came from the lecture and lab notes. Labs are very enjoyable. Keep up with your lab notebook. It would be helpful if you took Stat 2040 before taking this because it helps when you are writing the manuscript.
