UNIV * 1200 – First Year Seminar W (3-0) [0.50]

First Year Seminars are interdisciplinary courses designed especially for first year students. The goal of the First Year Seminar course is to provide opportunities for students to participate in small enrolment, discussion-oriented classes in their first year. Different seminar topics are offered each year in each separate course section, reflecting the particular research or professional interest of the course instructor. The seminar course counts as a free elective in the student’s Schedule of Studies. For information about how the seminar courses may in some cases fulfil particular program distribution requirements, students should contact their program counsellor. A list of current and archived offerings is available by following the links on the First Year Seminars web page.

I would absolutely recommend any first year seminar to all incoming first years. It\'s a great way to boost your average and make your courses a bit more fun. I took the Creativity one and would absolutely recommend it. Very little work, a great prof, no midterm and no final.

There is not text book, or even a midterm/final exam. The teacher was very nice and I thoroughly enjoyed learning from her. The course I took was titled Communicating effectively, and that's all I could see on-line, but it turned out to be called Communicating effectively for world change. This made little to no difference, but the class was just about learning to accept other peoples views and values and religions. It also went over the different types of personalities, along with popular/not so popular world issues. I HIGHLY recommend this course to boost up your average and take a load off as the work is not hard at all. Plus its a bonus that there was no exam. :)

took the Science, Environment and Politics class. Pretty interesting. Heavy course load throughout the year but no final which is great. Small classes which is amazing and great to meet new people.

Any of the courses offered are a great way of adding some spunk/flavour to your first year. All courses are different and change from year to year. Just make sure to read the course's description before signing up to make sure it's something your interested in.
