SOC * 2700 – Criminological Theory F,W (3-0) [0.50]

Always detest Howell\'s classes. She makes the content very confusing and every lecture is CRAMMED with just spewing out points about the theories. I am in 4th year soc undergrad and I struggled with this course when I usually get mid-high 80\'s.

VERY difficult and dry class. Do not recommend Howelles

For all those Brandon haters- He is a good prof. I never found him too monotonous, tbh, and I felt like he made the midterms fairly easy. TIPS: use his phrases in your midterm/final - "to hell in a hand basket" is one he uses a lot. Also, if you know some info is from the textbook, say so. I got browny points for fake sourcing my info. I would say "x from the textbook, y from the film, or z which was discussed in lecture" etc. You need to prep yourself, but he GIVES YOU the exam questions beforehand. It's NOT a hard course. Just half-read the textbook, and go to at least half of the lectures. Know each question about 50% and bullshit the rest and you will get AT LEAST a 75.

Carolyn Yule is the best! She makes criminological theory way more interesting than you would think. Easy online quizzes, midterm, two papers, and a final. Easy to do well in if you attend the class.

Avoid this class at all costs with Scott Brandon. Thee most mundane, monotone prof ever. His notes are terribly scattered and he does not prepare you at all for the midterms. AVOID IT. Take it with any other prof but him.

took it with yule. there were online quizzes of 5 questions. Based off textbook so you NEED it. Very easy to get at least 4/5. A midterm that was MC and long answer, it was fair. Book analysis that you have to do, and i did it on the crack dealing which was so interesting. Yule is a good prof, and i had the 3 hour night class but i felt she tried to drag it over the 3 hours and repeated herself alot. I took soc 1500 which helped. Recommend it as your elective (im in bio sci)

I took this class last year with Scott Brandon. He was very tough to listen to in lectures, and since notes weren't provided (not sure if this is the case now!) it was hard to follow too. It was a straightforward class with no papers or anything but be prepared to put a lot of effort into the course.

Decent enough class, had prof Yule. Clear teaching, notes online for later viewing. Pretty chilling overall. I had 2 small midterms, a paper, and an exam no online bullshit discussion or anything. I found this extremely easy after taking criminology in first year, and social deviance as well (however don't take social deviance w Scott Brandon, you will want to kill yourself from boredom). Good class if ur interested in crime and also murders and sick stuff like that. Hope this helps, cheers

Took this course with Yule. She made boring topics into interesting lectures. I loved the writing assignment we had to do and there was two other midterms and one final. There was not tons of information to know for them so I did well on all tests. She was very approachable if a student had a question.
