The course will engage with literary art forms (fiction, drama, poetry, and film) for philosophical goals. Possible emphases include the use of literary works to express philosophical topics; philosophical investigations of the nature of literary art forms; and philosophies of interpretation of such art forms (e.g., classical poetics, hermeneutics, deconstruction, analytical aesthetics). (Offered in odd-numbered years.)

This course is interesting, but NOTHING like it's description. We have not covered ANYTHING listed in the description. It has nothing to do with music, art, film or poetry. It's ONLY existentialism. The textbook is super hard to read, but so is all literature in philosophy. I recommend using spark notes after reading the textbook, just to get a summary of main ideas and points. Professor Langshaw is pretty good, although sometimes his definitions can be quite long and hard to understand. No computers in this class either, so be prepared to write a lot!
