Comment :
I took this course in Fall 2011 with Professor Susan Nance. It was a night class so that kind of sucked, but the information she covered during lecture was very interesting. Having never really learned about American History I thought this would be a good introduction. However, the class was a lot more difficult then I thought it would be. Given the vast span of time covered (we even briefly touched on the history prior to 1776) there is a lot to learn if you are unfamiliar with the topic. If you're anything like me and fail at doing your readings then this class is not for you. In addition, if you don't go to class you will also find yourself in a similar situation. The quizzes for the class are based off both lecture material AND your readings. Don't expect to not study/review before a quiz!! I also found the teacher to be somewhat of a hard marker. This being one of the first second year courses I ever took, I was not prepared! While I'm more used to that kind of stuff now, it was still kind of annoying. Oh well! My overall impression of the course was that if you are not prepared to do all the work and go to all of the classes you will not do well. However, the topic was interesting to learn about (especially since in Canada we don't seem to learn a lot about our southern neighbours).
