I took this course online (summer 2020), and the content was very very dry. The math was not too difficult if you took gr.11 Chem (like \"here is the weight of this with this % of fat, now find the weight of that with this % of fat),The professor did not really teach anything at all through his \"lecture notes\" (besides the minimal math) and was not available for help via email or any other platform. I asked him if he could suggest some resources, since it was my first university science course, and he just told me to look in the place where I had obviously looked - \"you get this info from the assigned textbook or from Internet sources\". He did not provide clear expectations for the course or exam (assignments were somewhat better laid out) so I didn\'t know what was most important to grasp from the textbook (which was repetitive in its content). I just became very frustrated with this course.

The course load is very easy but if you\'re bad at math, DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE!!! I thought it\'d be a bird course so I took it as an elective and RAAAGRETSSSSSSSS, the math is like biology and chemistry etc. You don\'t need the textbook either

Taken through DE I highly recommend this course for anyone interested in Food Science or just looking for an elective. Consists of 2 assignments, 2 discussions and a final exam. The course gives a general preview of what the field is about and the material is very basic knowledge for someone who has post secondary education. Mathematics is involved but nothing new to anyone who has a high school education. The best part of this course is the Professor. He goes above and beyond to help every student and let them know about upcoming assignments. Sends alot of email to keep you in track (since as an online course, its easy to procrastinate). The TAs are very lenient in marking and are also very helpful. The 2 textbooks are recommended as they are the primary source of course knowledge (one of the textbook is required specifically for a discussion). The course workload is not much as it only requires an hour of reading each week. Great course to take!

I wish all courses were like this! I took it DE. Prof. Marcone is half of what makes the course so good. He does everything he can to give students the highest mark possible. There's only two assignments and two online discussions. And the final. I'm a HUGE procrastinator and didn't start the assignments or conferences until the last minute and still managed to get 90s and 100 on them. VERY easy to do well in, plus I found the material really interesting. Because of this course (and Massimo!), I'm definitely thinking of switching into the Food Science major.

Marcone is hilarious, always sending these emails all the time. Never had a prof that cared so much about the course and his students, its like it hurts him if one of his students isn't motivated or gets a low mark. Like any online course, easy to fall behind. No midterms mean you have to be motivated to keep up yourself. Just 2 discussions, 2 assignments all very easy and fairly marked by the TAs, if you do the effort youre going to get 90-100 on them. Is a bird course, but at least its a slightly interesting bird course. Took it DE.

Great course! really easy to do well in this course. You can probably get by without the textbook. I used my textbook a little bit but most of the info can be found on the internet. The top 25 people who comment on the math discussion board will get an extra 5%, I would really suggest trying to aim for this extra percent. If can really boost your mark and it's really not hard if you comment maybe once a week or so. As long as you do the assignments/ posts and the weekly math, you will do amazing in this course

Easy to bullshit. I hardly did anything all semester, yet still pulled off a good mark. It's the most uninteresting course out there, though.

This course is easy. There are two assignments and two discussion topics. The evaluations are easy enough, they require work, of course, but the professor and TAs are really nice and mark fairly. If you make enough posts you can get a 100 at discussion posts. The professor tells you about the final exam and what to study. (He does email ALOT though)

I don't understand why everyone likes this class so much. I'm taking it now and I've never hated a course so much in my life... I find it difficult, and the courseload is INSANE (especially for a DE course, I've NEVER seen it like this before). It's incredibly overwhelming, I don't think I'll stay in this class for very much longer. Avoid this if you're looking for an easy elective. It's not interesting, and not fun.

Single-handledly the easiest course at Guelph. Very interesting topics, workload is perfect, professor was amazing, the TA actually cared about helping students. Came out of the class with new insight into the food we eat and the process involved to get it to our table.
