ENGL * 1410 – Major Writers U (3-0) [0.50]

This course, which is designed primarily for those not planning a specialization in English, offers an introduction to the study of literature through a chronological consideration of works by selected major authors from the Middle Ages to the present century, in relation to their social, intellectual and literary backgrounds. The course emphasizes the use of figurative language as well as the development of students’ critical reading and writing skills. Students planning to major or minor or pursue an area of concentration in English must take ENGL*1080 and ENGL*2080, but may also take ENGL*1410.

Dr. Powell is really interesting and it really good at motivating the class. The in-class writing assignments are very easy, just read the story, they are not long at all. The midterm boosted my mark. The essays are hard to get a good mark on, the class average is always pretty low in my point of view.

I took it last year. The course isn't too bad. There was a midterm, a term paper and a final. The professor is nice and open to others viewpoints.

Loved Dr.Powell as my prof. Excellent if you like analyzing short stories and poems. Best part about the class is that he took the best 3/4 papers and best 10/12 quizzes. Midterm was a bit hard, but otherwise a pretty great class!
