ENGG * 2100 – Engineering and Design II F,W (2-4) [0.75]

This course is a progression in engineering design skills with particular emphasis on computer usage in design, oral communication of solutions and team skills. Computer usage in design will include advanced CAD/CAM/CAE tools; and database management software. An introduction to safety in engineering practice and design, and the concept of sustainable development are covered.

Honestly this course is the only reason I got a summer Job at an engineering firm. The amount of knowledge you learn from the major design project will help a lot. Plus the amount of solidwork homework they give you was so helpful! Yeah its a lot of work, but it pays off in the end!! The work wasnt even too bad. The final exam was a joke, ended up with a 85% in the class.

Okay, so this course was ass. as other people have said, hours and hours of solidworks every goddamn week, and what's more, this 100 hour solidworks assignment is worth only 8% of your grade. As for the design project... It was a decently designed project, but we weren't given NEARLY enough time, there were practically no outlines posted, and the goddamn 3D printer doesn't print precisely enough to make your toy work. IF YOU WANT TO MAKE YOUR TOY WORK, USE A LEGO FRAME AS THE BASE. All the groups I saw that actually made it had one.

The solidworks assignment will kill you. You'll spend 80 hours on it just to get a 65-70%. The TAs for this course are the WORST TAs I have ever had. They are all disorganized, don't know what they are talking about and are not at all helpful. They give bullshit answers to your questions. One of the TAs discouraged us throughout the entire design process and always looked at my group as second class citizens. They don't see that you have other academic commitments and just assume that Design 2 is your only course. The final report is expected to be 30-50 Pages and there is no outline for that report. You basically are bullshitting and rambling on for pages and pages. Engineering at Guelph is getting better, but the TAs are lacking. They need help! They know less than the undergraduate students and some hardly speak english. Untrained and difficult to work with, they will kill you in terms of marking. 20 Hours of hardwork per week = 50% in this class. The TAs should be fired.Period.
