BIOM * 3200 – Mammalian Physiology F (6-0) [1.00]

This course focuses on the normal functioning of mammals. The physiology of the nervous, endocrine, reproductive, cardiovascular and digestive systems and homeostasis as reflected in respiratory and renal function is treated in a detailed manner. The integrative nature of various physiological systems is highlighted and cellular and molecular information is incorporated to enhance the understanding of these systems. Aspects of medically significant changes in the mammalian physiological systems are also introduced.

Great course. Very easy to get an A in it. I took it DE in Fall 2016 with J. Monk. We had 8 quizzes worth 20% total (one a week worth 2.5% each), a midterm worth 25% (Units 1-3), another midterm worth 25% (Units 4-7), and a final exam worth 30% (Units 8-12). I was able to find 80-100% of the quiz questions online, although they are timed, so you must be really fast with the computer and Googling if you want to be able to do them all. Also, before the second midterm, the Prof told us that whatever our better midterm grade was, she would give us that mark on both of them (I guess to compensate for those who did really bad on the first one). I got a 93 on my first one though, so it didn\'t make much difference to me. It is really nice that the exam isn\'t cumulative, but start studying a week early, as it is a LOT of information and very detailed, so going over it as many times as you can is best. Also, definitely get the textbook. For the final exam, Units 8-11 were strictly based on the textbook readings, while only Unit 12 was based off of the online Unit. She provided page readings for the newest version along with the past two versions as well, so I\'d recommend buying it used, or even a PDF to make typing easier (only looking at one source). I\'d also recommend taking notes on your computer, as it is a ton of information, and since the quizzes are online, you can use the computer\'s search function to find key words in your notes faster than flipping through them. Overall really great course. I found it super interesting and as long as you do the readings, the quizzes, midterms, and exam were really straight forward.

Took this course online, was pretty straight forward. If you can read and understand the textbook you'll do well! Prof gave us homework questions which became a part of the quiz and unlike Winter 2014 (she stated where people struggled with the course because they did not complete the question because at that time they weren't mandatory). Everything is straight forward there are 8 quizzes worth a 20% total, 2 midterms not cumulative worth 20% each and a final which is cumulative worth 40% with major emphasis on everything after the 2nd midterm. Yes, the quiz question or midterm questions mostly don't show up on google but if you study the textbook and make notes on the reading (usually 60-100 pgs per week) it's all straight forward. Midterms had 1 super easy short answer question, 10 t/f, 10 fill in thr blanks with word bank, 30 m/c with 75 mins. There was plenty of time to go over all the questions to double check. The final is similar to the midterms in format. There is only around 20-25% content from the previous units 2 short answer, 12 m/c. Also note people who had the pervious version of the textbook had some difficulties with changes in content and page numbers. make sure and she even emphasizes this but people had bought them before the start of the course GET THE NEWEST EDITION OF TEXTBOOK!!!

Ignore the comment below. If you actually take the time out to do all the readings and answer the practice questions she gives you, you'll end up going into the final with a 90+. The final has a 75% emphasis on the last part of the course: cardiovascular, renal, digestive and respiratory systems. There are 2 midterms that are non cumulative worth 20% each and a weekly quiz based on either 1 or sometimes 2 units. This is a full credit course and you will do well if you do all the readings. Most of the course is self taught through the textbook. There are major changes between the 12th and 13th editions so get the newest one. Also this course is not about regurgitation!!!!! You actually have to understand what is going on and apply it to questions being asked making it difficult for some people. Overall, great course! Highly recommend taking it DE.

DO NOT take this course DE with this prof. If you find yourself in that situation, make sure to buy the newest version of the textbook and be ready to use google for the majority of your quiz and midterm questions, because she tests more on trivia in the textbook (if the answer even ends up being in the textbook) than the main ideas presented in the sections. Her notes cover next to none of the material, so prepare to waste close to 15 hours a week doing notes from the textbook just to struggle with the quizzes anyways. I have heard great things about this course as an in-class, do yourself a favor and take it that way.

Don't be fooled the course is easy then she makes the final super long and much more difficult then you would expect considering the midterms were super short and super easy

This course is a really good course to take, it covers almost everything. The professor adds a lot of veterinary type of examples for all of you going to veterinary school and you learn about the normal functioning of the systems as well as common diseases/injury in each body system. The first and second midterm are fairly easy if you study well. The quizzes are pretty easy and they drop your lowest two. The final is very challenging it is cumulative so there is a lot of material to go through. It was 87 multiple choice, fill in the blank and long answer...25 pages long :)

Found this lecture really brutal to go through... For an hour and a half of this sort of material with no break, was a bit much for me. Prof is really monotone, and seems a bit disorganized. I found the midterm and final difficult, but ended up doing much better than I expected on both. It is a lot of material, but that is to be expected with a 1.00 credit course. Online assignments were easy. Overall, I didn't really enjoy this class while I was taking it, but the pure amount of stuff I knew after was well worth it. You gain a pretty good understanding of how all the major systems work, and for getting a full credit for what didn't feel like much more effort than is required for a .5 credit course, I would recommend it.

For a third year, full credit course, it really wasn't difficulty, per se. I wouldn't call it a bird course though because there is a lot in physiology. I took it when it was offered as a two-lecture a week for one semester for the first time. We got this 3 to 1 combined textbook with messed up page number and in black-and-white of course. (At least it wasn't expansive) Some complained about his monotone, but I guess this is too general for his research. His lecture notes are okay, and those supplementry notes are very useful. Assignments were set up like quizzes in another site without time restrains. So if you have time for it, you can get a lot out of this course. I didn't like how there wasn't enough class time devoted to it, considering the large amount of materials. But I guess we're expected to complete more independent learning at that point. And he's more than willing to explain concepts, after class and online.
