Took this with Hanna and Kalish and it was a great experience. I don't see how they could offer a course like this online. Yes there is memorization involved. You need ot know the drug names and which receptors they bind to and also need to know what each receptor does. But you need to understand the concepts in order to know why certain drugs can't be used together or which drugs will enhance each other, etc. Hanna's section is kind of boring. He explains drug properties in general (absorption, distribution, etc) whereas Kalish teaches you about actual drugs. You don't learn about the body, really, you learn about classes of drugs. The exams were very fair. I did the cumulative final worth 90% of my mark and it was not too hard to learn all that material together. An easy 80+ if taken on campus. However, BIOM 4090 is much more interesting.

I do not recommend taking this course! Although the content is interesting it is a very difficult course especially when taken online (heard its better online). Most people do well on the midterm considering they have their notes so the exam is there to screw you and bring down the class average. The exam is also worth 50% Need to be able to memorize A LOT of very specific detailed information.

This is a great class! There are a few proffs, all of which have very different teaching styles, but overall they are very effective. The testing is fair and they drop the midterm if you want!

Generally an easy course if you go to class and pay attention. A lot of memorization involved, but if you can get all the drugs memorized and understand all the basic concepts, you'll be fine. Just put in the effort.

Quite enjoy this course. LOTS of content, its no bird course so if thats what youre looking for find something else. If you don't keep up and/or pay attention every class you're just going to be lost as they move forward quickly and I definitely had a few lectures where I had no idea what was going on. However, when you sit down and take the time to learn it comes together and the content is very interesting and applicable. Clinical examples are used often, very interesting to look at how different drugs can interact with each other etc. Keep your head up when you get to the ANS and Cardiovascular sections, lots of stuff to learn. Highly recommend the course though, worth the effort and a high mark isnt unattainable at all. Textbook is online which i hate and stopped downloading it, but its very cheap, like $2/chapter

I really loved this class. It was challenging, and you do have to study hard and pay attention in class. Writing out the drugs and what they do and laying it out makes it easier to learn. Don't try to learn it by just reading your notes and the chapters, it takes more hands-on than that. Got a 90, so it's not impossible. Hanna and Kalisch did a good job, and were fair in their exams (personally I found Hanna's exam questions harder, they were all multiple choice).

Great course filled with cool information! Quite a bit to know (it's no bird course!) so I wouldn't recommend it if you're taking other heavy courses and don't need it. The material is presented well and ties together. Flash cards are your friends, especially when you hit the autonomic section of the course.
