This course provides a comprehensive introduction to evolutionary biology, the historical development of the discipline, the extent and nature of genetic diversity, and the mechanisms of evolutionary change. Examination of adaptation and speciation, and the origins and patterns of biotic diversity through evolutionary time. Took this course because Ive found learning about evolution on my own quite interesting and something all bio majors should be familiar with. Took the risk despite the bad comments/review and have enjoyed it. Content is actually quite interesting, Fu is hard to understand at times and makes paying attention difficult, but provides decent lecture slides and midterms are fair. Essay, 2 midterms and a Final. Midterms were half mult choice and half short answer questions with 70% averages, quite fair. Can probably do without the textbook, just ask him to put more copies on reserve at library. half the class didnt have the textbook for the 1st midterm anyway because of an order problem. Might not be a course for everyone, but content isnt difficult to understand, topics are interesting and well structured and Ive enjoyed it this far.

Ok. Took this class because everybody was telling me it was easy and interesting. Must have been their prof, because Winter 2011 was ridiculous. Dull, annoying, very little to do with evolution on a mass scale. maybe 10% of people actually attended lectures, and I am being generous.
