Also a ton of confusing reading, text books are hard to read and difficult to understand.

Extremely difficult for a first year class, especially if you have no experience or knowledge of the art world since 1950s- today. Douglas is very confusing in lectures. But once understood extremely interesting theories. I would not recommend to take this in first year. If you dislike your TA after the first week, switch tutorials immediately. I did not find my TA knowledgeable at all, switched after the 2nd week and my new TA helped alot.

Worst course ever. Took it in fourth year with Douglas (it was a requirement for my minor). I have never been treated so much like a first year. Insane amount of material to memorize. Wasn't allowed to take notes on my laptop. Ended up not caring if I got a decent mark, just wanted to pass.

Only took it because it was required - confusing textbook, confusing material and usually a confusing prof.

The text books for this course are insane. The amount of material one is responsible to know is unjust for it being a first year course. I took it in second year and STILL couldn't believe the course load. The class I took also had an extremely unorganized prof who was very unclear up until the last minute about what she expected us to know which make attending her lectures and taking her seriously as a prof very difficult.

I have taken this course twice. It truly depends on who you get as a teacher. The first time I failed the course (barely) and the second time I did much better. Its an okay course, but its not my forte.
