Not an easy course, although no midterms or exams. No textbook, professor is fair. I\'m taking it as an \"elective\", and it\'s not too much weekly work, but the assignments are major and are quite time-consuming. What I wish I would\'ve known before taking this course: PICK A TYPE OF PRODUCT THAT WILL BE EASY TO FIND INFORMATION ON. Check that it has guaranteed analysis, metabolizable energy and REAL CLAIMS (that you can find studies/research for) on the bag before making your pick for a product. It will make your life so much easier.

This course changed a bit in Fall 2015 and will be different for Fall 2016 as well. Fall 2015 had Jim Atkinson for the first couple of weeks to go through cats and exotics, but that was the last time he would be doing lectures for this course. Dr. Bureau then gave a few lectures on pet food processing, and Dr. Shoveller taught the rest of the course. I believe Dr. Shoveller will be teaching the entire course starting next year, but I could be wrong. They tried a new format with one midterm, a two part project and an exam, which seemed to be somewhat of a disaster for some people with a low midterm average as well as unclear project instructions. Overall I was able to do well on the midterm and we were all able to figure the project out, and the final exam was made relatively easy to make up for the bad midterm. I\'m not sure how it will be next year, but the course has definitely changed from the 2 midterms and final exam format. I did learn a lot and would still recommend this course, especially for those wanting to go to vet school.

Coming from a BSc Biology major who has no interest in vet science or working with animals, i liked this course. I wouldnt say I liked it a lot, kinda found myself wondering why I care how cat food is made or why lizards need calcium but nonetheless atkinson made it interesting. took it to fullfil a minor in nutrition. Atkinson did a good job of teaching it, but I think F12 was his last time teaching it. Could be bad and very dry with a different prof though, would be hard to top atkinson. Material was meh, prof made it good.

Professor Atkinson is the most interesting teacher I've had. He knows his stuff and there is no way you can get sleepy or bored during one of his classes. The material is very interesting, specially if you are interested in working with small animals later in life. Loved it!
