Comment :
I recommend this to anyone looking into applying to vet school, because the course gives you tonnes of information on cows, pigs, chickens and the meat industry. There is a lot of information and a lot to study, but the material is not challenging. Pacing yourself while studying and planning ahead can help you go a long way in this course. Prof. Mandell was extremely informative and always willing to answer questions and help, however, he does not condone talking during his class or questions he's already answered (so pay attention during lecture). There are 2 midterms (both worth 25%) and a final worth 50%. The midterms and exam are not difficult if you pay attention in class and study ahead of time for them, and it is definitely possible to get and 80 and above in this course.

This course can go two ways. Either really well, or very terrible. The prof is very hard to approach, and at times extremely rude. The notes were unorganized and had very poor spelling. The course itself was good, the material none-stop and a lot of it. I would recommend this course to people with a different prof.

None of the information presented is all that complicated, but there is a ton of it. Every lecture is basically non-stop physiology. Very interesting and often overwhelming. Worth taking although if it's not necessary for you to graduate it may just be an extra head-ache. Textbook is definitely not necessary.

Notes are not organized and a lot of questions. The prof. talk too fast and hard to write down the anwers in the notes, some of the answers cannot be found in the textbook which is really bad. I don't enjoy the course at all.

Great course but a lot of information. The material is not particularly difficult especially if you have a general knowledge of farm animals and/or basic anatomy and physiology it is just the vast amount of stuff to know. I took this in class and I felt going to class was necessary. Definitely not an easy elective. There is an online lab every week so you do not need to go to your registered lab section. Ira Mandell is a very good prof and is interested in answering questions but he does not tolerate stupidity or people talking in lecture.

Definitely a great course! The concepts in this course are not what's hard about it - It's just the amount of information to learn. Goes into anatomy of farm animals (mainly pigs chicken and cows), physiology and the meat industry. I took it DE and it was ALOT to learn on your own. It was 5 quizzes (10% each) and a final. All the tests were really fair, but the quizzes were only open for 30 minutes so make sure you study! Prof. Mandel is awesome. He'll never hesitate to give you help. Definitely recommend this course if you like animals or want to be a vet. Really useful information but you need to put the time into learning it all! BUY THE TEXT BOOK!

took it online. SO much information to handle doing on your own. I know people who took it in class and said it was easier to manage. the final was hard in my opinion, since there was so many figures and part of bones that you had to memorize. Don't take it online if you're doing it as an easy elective. BUT with this said, it was information that was actually interesting, especially for all us people wanting to go to vet school.
