The no textbook was awesome. The midterm and final were relatively fair. Make sure you attend guest lectures as there are questions about them on the examinations. The labs were fun and the final lab quiz was pretty easy. Flew through the midterm and final in half the time required. The writing assignments are annoying and the TA\'s are pretty picky so I recommend getting LOTS of feedback before you hand it in. Most important thing is write in pen on the midterm and final because the TAs took off a lot of marks that they shouldn\'t have so getting it regraded is a good idea! Also, make sure you read through the slides at least once before the final since there were a couple questions that were pretty insignificant points. Overall, it was a really good course! I received a pretty high mark on pretty much everything in the course!

No textbook. His midterm is 85% the same as old versions of the midterm. Final had many similar questions but not all the same. He is a great guy and wants you to succeed, he even hosts a meeting time after the midterm where everyone goes up to him and he literally just gives you free marks to boost your score. There is a big project where you create your own project (this is optional but highly recommended as it\'s an easy 90%+ if you work on it). Not a difficult course. The only bad part is that he can be a little dry in lecture. He cracks jokes and the content is pretty interesting, however his style of teaching can be hard to follow especially since he will test you on things he says in lecture without writing them down anywhere so writing notes can be difficult.

No textbook for the class. Vern has MANY ideas which he likes to talk about a lot. Class is mostly common sense. I barely studied for anything and ended the class in the 80's. If you study you'll do even better. Everything is weighted evenly, 25% midterm, 25% labs (participation and final lab test), 25% final project (you have to invent your own product) and 25% final exam. I'd say about half the class likes Vern and half don't. Personally, I liked him. I guess it all depends on if you actually enjoy having a conversation with your prof. Many people who don't like him have never even bothered talking to him. He likes hearing your ideas and helping you out. Good course!
