Amazing prof; holds your attention the entire time and has a great relationship with the class. Test/midterm/exam were fair, and you were able to study a couple topics and be set (he told you exactly what topics would be on the final, so you could just pick two of each type and study/prepare for those). Writing assignment was fairly decent - you just had to write 1000~1200 words reviewing an article.

This was overall one of my favourite courses in university. John is an amazing man and holds your attention for the whole lecture. He is also an extremely fair guy, always considered giving me extensions or remarking my work. the material was fascinating, and the texts books were some of the only ones I've actually read in university. The only downfall was the overall difficulty. I'm an 80+ student and for the life of me, I couldn't get my mark above 80. Definitely not an average-booster, but excellent course.

Really interesting material. Depends on who the prof is as to what you have to do workwise and what textbooks you use. Overall a great class if you are interested in ancient Greek and Roman history.
